Transit

Moving 1.9 million people through one structure. Elevator tech is the gating problem.

Origin needs a transit system that moves the population of San Francisco in and out of one structure on a peak day. Three layers: external (HSR, highway, aviation, eVTOL), internal vertical (elevators), internal horizontal (skybridges).

HSR is non-optional

High-speed rail terminating in Origin's foundation. Two or three lines connecting to nearest metros — Phoenix, Las Vegas, Denver, Albuquerque, Salt Lake. HSR station occupies several lower-podium floors below grade. You cannot operate Origin without its own rail. Highway access for vehicle traffic, deliveries, emergency services. Multi-level parking deep underground.

The elevator problem

A 1.5-mile single-rise elevator does not exist. Current world record is the Burj Khalifa at 1,654 ft. Origin needs 7,920 ft — five times longer. Single-rise breaks at this scale.

The stack

KONE UltraRope (carbon-fiber cable, 90% lighter than steel) extends single-rise capability to ~3,300 ft. Already deployed in the Burj. ThyssenKrupp MULTI is the game-changer: cable-less, magnetic levitation propulsion, multiple cabs per shaft, can move horizontally as well as vertically. The only system on Earth that can do what Origin needs.

A single MULTI cab can travel up Pillar-NW, across a skybridge to the Spire, up the Spire, and arrive at the Apex without the passenger ever changing cars. No transfers. Continuous travel. Origin elevator subsystem cost: $5–8B on its own.

Skybridges as transit arteries

People movers and possibly small monorails running on the structural skybridges at every 100 floors. The skybridges are structural first, transit second — but the structure is overbuilt enough to carry people-mover load. Walk them, ride them, both work.

Helipads, eVTOL, regional airport

Multiple helipads on the Pillars at varying elevations — emergency egress, executive transit, medical. eVTOL pad infrastructure: by 2035–2040 commissioning, eVTOL is mature, design for it now. Dedicated regional airport in the buffer zone (20–30 miles out for noise) handling private jets to eventual commercial routes specifically serving Origin.

Transfer at every 100 floors

Tiered transfer points at every 100 floors, aligned with the structural skybridge tiers. Express elevators between sky lobbies; local elevators serve the floors between. Standard supertall pattern (Empire State, Burj) scaled to formation. The architecture: HSR arrives at Foundation, transfer to local or skybridge transit, reach destination floor or target Pillar.
