Turai David Etzioni Kelpholtz served in the Israel Defense Forces. David served with the Infantry. David served in the War of Independence. David was 17 years old.

What Happened

בן מלכה ומנוס, נולד ביום י"ז בחשוון תרצ"א (8.11.1930) בברלין, בירת גרמניה. היה ילד כבן ארבע כשהמשפחה יצאה מגרמניה הנאצית ועלתה לארץ בשנת 1934. ההורים התיישבו ברעננה ובמושבה זו עברה עליו ילדותו. שם סיים בית-ספר יסודי ולמד חשמלאות. דויד התגייס לצבא ב-16.4.1948 ושירת בחטיבת פלמ"ח "יפתח". את אימוניו עשה בחולתה, בגליל. בחודש יוני 1948 החל לצאת לפעולות. הוא השתתף במבצע "יורם" (ההתקפה השלישית על לטרון) ובמבצע "דני", שבו נפל. הדבר היה בלוד הכבושה, שהתמרדה. ביום ד' בתמוז תש"ח (11.7.1948) היה דויד בפטרול- סיור בעיר ולפתע ניתכה עליהם אש של שני משורייני הלגיון הערבי שחדרו לעיר. הפטרול נסוג לחפירה נמוכה והותקף שם על-ידי חיילי הלגיון וצלפים מתוך האוכלוסייה. בחסות ענני אבק נסוג הפטרול מהחפירה ורק דויד וחברו זאב וייס נשארו ונורו על-ידי הערבים. בערב, עם דיכוי המרד, נאספו גופותיהם. הובא למנוחת-עולמים בבית-הקברות הצבאי בנחלת יצחק.
