Turai David-Ervin Polak served in the Israel Defense Forces. David-Ervin served with the Armored Corps. David-Ervin served in the War of Independence. David-Ervin was 42 years old.

What Happened

בן אמיליה ויוסף, נולד ביום י' בסיוון תרס"ה (13.7.1905) בעיר המבורג, גרמניה. עוד בתקופת לימודיו בגימנסיה הצטרף ל"מכבי" והיה פעיל באגודת "בר-כוכבא". אחר-כך יסד וניהל בית-חרושת קטן למברשות והיה פעיל באגודה הציונית המקומית. בשנת 1934 עלה ארצה עם רעייתו וחידש את מפעלו בתל-אביב. היה פעיל בשורות "מכבי" כשחקן-הוקי משובח, וב"ברית-מכבים-עתיד" ונבחר כחבר הוועד באגודה זו ובמועדון המכבים. במילוי משימות ציבוריות לא ידע מעצורים ועייפות. במהומות הדמים תרצ"ו- תרצ"ט השתתף באופן פעיל בשירות ה"הגנה" והתנדב למשטרה המיוחדת בתל-אביב. בימי מלחמת-העולם השנייה היה חבר "המשמר האזרחי". עם קום המדינה לא יכול לצאת לשירות קרבי מחמת בריאותו הלקויה אך לא יכול היה לשבת בביתו והתנדב לשירותי-משמר מקומיים. בעומדו על משמרתו ב"מחנה-יונה" נפגע בשעת הפצצה אווירית מצרית ונהרג ביום ד' בתמוז תש"ח (11.7.1948). הובא למנוחת- עולמים בבית-הקברות הצבאי בנחלת יצחק. הניח אישה, חנה.
