Turai Arie Adir served in the Israel Defense Forces. Arie served with the Infantry. Arie served in the War of Independence. Arie was 17 years old.

What Happened

בן אסתר וצבי, נולד ביום י"ח באלול תר"ץ (11.9.1930) בירושלים, ועבר עם משפחתו לשכונת-בורוכוב. אביו היה חלוץ ואמו גננת, והנער גדל באווירה של הכרה ואחריות לאומית. אריה היה חבר ה"הגנה" מילדותו ועוד בהיותו תלמיד בבית-הספר יצא לאימונים ועשה בהם לעתים קרובות ימים תמימים. הוא הגיע לדרגת מ"כ. כשפרצה מלחמת-העצמאות היה תלמיד הכיתה השביעית בבית- החינוך התיכון בתל-אביב, והיה פטור, בשל גילו הצעיר, משירות בפלוגות קרביות. אבל לבו לא נתנו לשבת על ספסל-הלימודים בשעה שהגליל בידי האויב. הוא התגייס בלי לגלות את גילו האמיתי ושירת בגדוד הראשון בחטיבת "יפתח". בליל 14-15 במאי 1948 כבש גדודו את מלכיה כדי לקדם פני פלישת צבא לבנון. ביום ו' באייר תש"ח (15.5.1948) תקפו הלבנונים בכוח ניכר ובסיוע ארטילריה. הכוח, שלא הספיק להתארגן ולהתחפר במקום, נאלץ לסגת. בקרב זה נפל כשניסה, לפי עדות חבריו לפלוגה, להוציא את הנשק שהיה אחראי לו כמפקד כיתה. הוא הובא לקבורה בתל-יוסף וביום י"ג באב תש"י (27.7.1950) הועבר למנוחת-עולמים בבית-הקברות הצבאי בנחלת יצחק.
