Segen David Peletz served in the Israel Defense Forces. David served with the Armored Corps. David served in the Six-Day War. David was 20 years old.
Son of Nahum and Yosefa. Born on the 3rd of Adar 5707 (23.2.1947) in the city of Wroclaw in Poland. In 1957 the family immigrated to Israel. He studied at the elementary school in Kibbutz Hanita and afterwards completed his studies in Neve Tzedek in Tel Aviv. After that he studied for four years at Municipal High School A in the evenings, and during the day he worked at the museum of the Tel Aviv Municipality. When he reached draft age he was drafted into the IDF in July 1965 and served in the Armored Corps.
The Six-Day War broke out while he was still in compulsory service. On the second day of the fighting, the 27th of Iyar 5727 (6.6.1967), he took part in the battle for the Rafah positions. In that battle, when his tank was hit directly, the crew members were wounded and the tank began to burn. After David hurried and rescued the wounded gunner and laid him behind cover, he returned to the tank to rescue the loader-radio operator, but during this action he was hit and fell.
He was brought to burial in the emergency-period military cemetery at Be'eri, and some time later was moved to eternal rest in the military cemetery on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem. After his death he was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant. For displaying courage, a spirit of volunteering and devotion to the mission, he was commended by the Chief of Staff.
An inquiry conducted in 2017 emphasized that the Chief of Staff's Citation for Commendation awarded to Lieutenant David Peletz, of blessed memory, was converted to the Medal of Courage.
