Rav Samal Daniel Baal-Kore served in the Israel Defense Forces. Daniel served with the Infantry. Daniel served in the War of Independence. Daniel was 19 years old.

What Happened

בן תרצה ודוב, נולד ביום כ"א בניסן תרפ"ט (1.5.1929) בבני ברק ולמד שם בבית-הספר העממי של "המזרחי". מילדותו נמשך אחרי מלאכת המכונאות ובסיימו את בית-הספר העממי קיבל את השכלתו הטכנית בבית-הספר המקצועי על שם מכס פיין בתל- אביב. שנים אחדות היה פעיל בגדנ"ע, אך ברצותו לאחוז בנשק ממש, מיהר לעבור לשורות החי"ש ובו גילה את ידיעותיו בכלי- נשק ממש. עם פרוץ מלחמת-העצמאות הצטרף לחי"ש המגויס ופעל בטיהור סביבות כפר אז"ר. אחרי-כן עבר קורס מ"כים והועבר למחנה בנתניה בתפקיד סגן מפקד מחלקה, ושם אימן טירונים. על תקופתו זו היה דני מתפאר באומרו: "הייתי ה'משפשף' הראשון בחטיבה שזכה לקבל מתנה מחניכיו". ואמנם חניכיו, שבהדרכתו עמלו קשה באימוניהם, חיבבוהו. מנתניה יצא לפעולת כיבוש כפר סבא הערבית ומשם לקרבות טיהור הדרך לחיפה. ביום י"ד באייר תש"ח (23.5.1948), בעת הפריצה לכפר טנטורה, שהיה בין הכפרים האחרונים שנכבשו בפעולות הטיהור, נפגע דניאל בצווארו מכדור צלף ונפל. בסיוע ימי יצאו פלוגות חטיבת "אלכסנדרוני" להתקפה ולפני אור היום נכנע הכפר, אך דני לא זכה לראות בשמחת הניצחון. הוא הובא למנוחת-עולמים בבית-הקברות הצבאי בנחלת יצחק.
