Turai Yehuda Shperling served in the Israel Defense Forces. Yehuda served with the Infantry. Yehuda served in the War of Independence. Yehuda was 47 years old.

What Happened

בנם-בכורם של בלהה ומנחם, נולד ביום ט"ו באייר תר"ס (14.5.1900) בעיר בוכניה, גליציה, פולין. יהודה למד בבית-ספר עברי ובגימנסיה והיה פעיל בתנועת-נוער ציונית. אחרי מלחמת- העולם הראשונה עבר עם הוריו לגרמניה. בגיל 14, כבכור המשפחה, עבד ופירנס את המשפחה הענפה עד שאביו הצליח לבסס את עסקיו. עם התבגרותו עסק במסחר והיה פעיל בתנועה הציונית. ב-1933 עלה ארצה עם אישתו ובתו והתיישב בחיפה. שם נולד להם בן. גם שם עסק במסחר ובו בזמן היה עסקן ציבורי: שופט בהתנדבות בבית משפט השלום העברי וחבר הוועדה למתן אשראי ב"קופת מלווה לעולים" (של עולי גרמניה). היה חבר ב"הגנה" ומראשוני המתנדבים להג"א. היה איש-רעים ומוכן תמיד לעזור לזולת. יהודה נהרג בשעת מילוי תפקידו עם תחילת מלחמת-העצמאות ביום ט' באדר א' תש"ח (19.2.1948) בעיר התחתית בחיפה. השאיר אחריו אישה ושני ילדים. הובא למנוחת-עולמים בבית-הקברות הצבאי בחיפה.
