Turai Eliyahu-Meir Grinshtein served in the Israel Defense Forces. Eliyahu-Meir served with the Infantry. Eliyahu-Meir served in the War of Independence.

What Happened

בן חוה ויצחק, נולד בשנת 1904 בעיר וויסוקי-מזובייצק, פולין. באופן פרטי רכש לעצמו השכלה תיכונית. אחרי מות אביו נשא בעול פרנסת הבית. מגיל צעיר היה פעיל בעיירתו בעבודה הציונית והיה יושב-ראש הסניף של הציונים הכלליים ושל הוועדים המקומיים לקרנות הלאומיות ונציג אחראי רשמי כלפי השלטונות. בשנת 1935 עלה ארצה עם משפחתו. הוא התיישב בחיפה, למד את מלאכת הנגרות ועבד בה כל השנים בקואופרטיב "כרמל", והוסיף להשתתף בפעולות הציונות הכללית. היה ער לכל המתרחש בארץ ונענה לכל קריאה של המוסדות הלאומיים. בשנת 1938 התגייס לנוטרות ותוך כדי המשכת עבודתו בנגריה היה ממלא בשעת הצורך תפקידי ביטחון מטעם ה"הגנה" בשירותו כנוטר. כשהחלה מלחמת-העצמאות כבר היה אב לשני ילדים, אך את תפקידו בהגנת העיר מילא בעמדות ה"הגנה" במזרח העיר. ביום ט"ו באדר א' תש"ח (25.2.1948) נפל בעומדו על משמרתו והובא למנוחת-עולמים בבית-הקברות הצבאי בחיפה.
