What Happened

בן אסתר ואפרים, נולד בשנת 1922 בטרנסילבניה ובהיותו כבן שלוש עלה לארץ עם הוריו, שהתיישבו בכפר גדעון שליד עפולה. בהיותו בן חמש נתייתם מאביו ומאז נדד ממקום למקום, כשאמו האלמנה עושה כמיטב יכולתה לפרנסו ולהקנות לו השכלה. תחילה היה בכפר ילדים ומשם הועבר לפנימייה ברמת גן, אלא שיד אמו לא השיגה לשלם את דמי החזקתו, ועל כן עבר לשפיה ומשם לחיפה. בעיר עבד בעבודות שונות עד שרכש לו את מקצוע המכונאות וכבן 16, בשנת 1938, נתקבל לעבודה בצבא הבריטי, בתחנת-הרכבת בטול-כרם. באותה שנה הצטרף ל"הגנה". היו אלה ימי מאורעות, אך יצחק החזיק שם מעמד עד סוף 1939. בינואר 1940 התגייס לצבא הבריטי, שירת בצי, היה במצרים ובסוף 1943 חזר לארץ, נשא אישה והתפרנס בכבוד. יצחק נפל ביום ו' באדר א' תש"ח (16.2.1948) מכדור אויב, בעומדו על משמרתו כצלף בעמדה קדמית בוואדי-רושמיה בחיפה והובא למנוחת-עולמים בבית-הקברות הצבאי בחיפה. הניח אישה וילד.
