Turai Eliezer Shapira served in the Israel Defense Forces. Eliezer served with the Infantry. Eliezer was 22 years old.
בן פנינה ומרדכי, נולד ביום ט"ז באלול תרפ"ו (26.8.1926) בעיר טימישוארה, רומניה, למשפחה דתית. היה הבן השביעי במשפחה. בלומדו בבית-הספר הצטרף לתנועת-נוער ציונית ובהשפעתו נעשתה כל המשפחה ציונית. עם כניסת הצבא הגרמני לרומניה החל לעבוד במתפרה כדי לפרנס את המשפחה, מאחר שאביו ואחיו נשלחו לעבודת-כפייה. עם שני אחיו תיכן תוכנית בריחה. עבר את הונגריה וגבול יוגוסלביה, אך נתפס בדרך ונאסר. משהשתחרר, הפליג בשנת 1947 באוניית-המעפילים "כנסת ישראל" לארץ. ישב במחנות קפריסין ואחר-כך בעתלית עד עזוב הצבא הבריטי את הארץ. בפרוץ מלחמת-העצמאות התגייס לצבא, שירת בחטיבת "קריתי" והשתתף בקרבות בית-נבאללה, ראש העין, יהודיה, קולה, קלקיליה ומגדל צדק. עם תום הקרבות עבר קורס סמלים. אליעזר נפל ברמלה ביום כ"ה בתשרי תש"ט (28.10.1948). הובא למנוחת-עולמים בבית-הקברות הצבאי בנחלת יצחק.
