Turai Avraham-Shandor Sakler served in the Israel Defense Forces. Avraham-Shandor served with the Infantry. Avraham-Shandor served in the War of Independence. Avraham-Shandor was 17 years old.

What Happened

בן שרה וינו, נולד ביום ח' באדר תרצ"א (25.2.1931) בהונגריה. למד בבית-ספר בעירו, הצטיין בלימודיו והיה בעל נטייה פיוטית חזקה. בתקופת מלחמת-העולם השנייה, עם הסגרת יהודי הונגריה לידי המרצחים הגרמנים, הוסע גם הוא ברכבת-מוות למחנה- ההשמדה אושוויץ, אך נותר בחיים. אחרי המלחמה חזר לבודפשט, אך סירב להישאר שם, וללא ידיעת ההורים יצא ב"נתיב-הבריחה" לאיטליה. רק מן הדרך, מווינה, כתב להוריו שאינו יכול להישאר בין המרצחים והוא עולה הביתה, לארץ-ישראל. אברהם העפיל ארצה באוניית-מעפילים שנתפשה בידי הבריטים והוגלה לקפריסין. שם למד בעזרת הג'וינט מסגרות מיכנית. אברהם עלה לארץ מקפריסין בשנת 1947 והחל ללמוד חקלאות במקווה ישראל. בתקופת מלחמת-העצמאות התנדב ושירת בחטיבת "אלכסנדרוני". הועבר עם גדודו לגיזרת לטרון, כתגבורת לכוחות במבצע "בן-נון א'" - הניסיון לכבוש את מערך הלגיון בלטרון ולפרוץ את הדרך לירושלים. על גדודו הוטל לכבוש את לטרון, אך הוא נתקל בכוחות אויב עדיפים ונאלץ לסגת. בקרב זה נפל, ביום י"ז באייר תש"ח (26.5.1948). ביום כ"ה בחשוון תש"י (17.11.1949) הובא למנוחת-עולמים בבית-הקברות הצבאי בהר- הרצל בירושלים.
