Turai Efraim Makler served in the Israel Defense Forces. Efraim served with the Infantry. Efraim served in the War of Independence. Efraim was 23 years old.

What Happened

בן רחל וחיים, נולד ביום כ"ו בטבת תרפ"ה (22.1.1925) בעיר ולדימרזץ, פולין. בהיותו בן 11 עלה לארץ והמשיך את לימודיו בכפר סבא, מקום מושב המשפחה, עד לכיתה ו' של בית-הספר היסודי, ומשם עבר לבן שמן והיה שלוש שנים ב"עלומים". אפרים גדל לאיש-אדמה ואיש-מגן. הוא התגייס לפלמ"ח ושירת שלוש שנים בהכשרה מגויסת בקדש נפתלי. משם חזר לכפר סבא ושירת בחי"ש עד להתגייסותו המלאה לחטיבת "אלכסנדרוני", בה שימש בתפקיד חובש. בהתקפה על המדרשה ליד בית ברל בקרבת צופית, נפצע. עם כניסת הלגיון הערבי ללחימה החמיר מצבה של ירושלים והדרך אליה נותקה על-ידי מערך הלגיון בלטרון. לפריצת הדרך תוכנן מבצע "בן-נון א'", ועל גדודו הוטל לתקוף את לטרון. הכוח התוקף נתקל בכוחות אויב עדיפים ונאלץ לסגת. בקרב זה נפל, ביום י"ז באייר תש"ח (26.5.1948). ביום כ"ה בחשוון תש"י (17.11.1949) הובא למנוחת-עולמים בבית-הקברות הצבאי בהר- הרצל בירושלים.
