Turai Moshe Meirs served in the Israel Defense Forces. Moshe served with the Armored Corps. Moshe served in the War of Independence. Moshe was 23 years old.

What Happened

בן הילדה ורודולף, נולד ביום י"ח בסיוון תרפ"ד (20.7.1924) בעיר אלמלו, הולנד. למד בבית-ספר תיכון ובימי הכיבוש הנאצי הצליח להתחבא מפני התליינים ולהציל את נפשו. היה ציוני מנעוריו, חבר פעיל בתנועת "החלוץ" ועלה לארץ כמעפיל בשנת 1946. עם בואו הצטרף לקיבוץ גלעד של "השומר הצעיר", ליד דליה. מהקיבוץ עבר למושבה רמת השרון, ועבד כפועל חקלאי. משה לא הספיק להתערות בחקלאות לה אמר להקדיש את חייו, כי עם הגיוס הראשון בפרוץ מלחמת-העצמאות התגייס לחטיבת "אלכסנדרוני". עם כניסת הלגיון הערבי ללחימה, הוחמר מצבה של ירושלים והדרך אליה נותקה על-ידי מערך הלגיון בלטרון. לפריצת הדרך תוכנן מבצע "בן-נון א'", המשימה הוטלה על חטיבה 7 וגדודו של משה תיגבר אותה למשימה זו. על הגדוד הוטל לכבוש את לטרון, אך הוא נתקל בכוחות אויב עדיפים ונאלץ לסגת. בקרב זה נפל, ביום י"ז באייר תש"ח (25.5.1948). ביום כ"ה בחשוון תש"י (17.11.1949) הועבר למנוחת-עולמים בבית-הקברות הצבאי בהר- הרצל בירושלים.
