בן פייגה ומשה-ראובן, נולד ביום ב' בטבת תרפ"ה (29.12.1924) בעיר באקאו, רומניה. סיים שש כיתות בית-ספר עממי ושתי כיתות גימנסיה והחל להרוויח את לחמו כזבן בחנות. בשנת 1946 עלה לארץ ועבד בפרדס בקרבת מקום מגוריו - רעננה. הוא התאמן בשורות ה"הגנה" ובבוא המועד התגייס לחטיבת "אלכסנדרוני". מערך הלגיון בלטרון חסם את הדרך לירושלים, ועם החמרת המצב בעיר הוחלט לפרוץ את הדרך אליה במבצע "בן-נון א'". גדודו של מנדל תיגבר את חטיבה 7 והוטל עליו לכבוש את לטרון. הכוחות שיצאו למשימותיהם נתקלו בכוחות אויב עדיפים ונאלצו לסגת. בקרב הנסיגה הקשה נפל, ביום י"ז באייר תש"ח (26.5.1948). ביום כ"ה בחשוון תש"י (17.11.1949) הובא למנוחת-עולמים בבית-הקברות הצבאי בהר- הרצל בירושלים.
