Turai Shlomo Weisbord served in the Israel Defense Forces. Shlomo served with the Armored Corps. Shlomo served in the War of Independence. Shlomo was 28 years old.

What Happened

בן אהובה ומנחם, נולד ביום כ"ג בכסלו תר"ף (15.12.1919) בעיר לומז'ה, פולין. בהיותו בן שבע נתייתם מאביו. הוא למד ב"תלמוד- תורה" וב"ישיבה". בשנת 1934 עלה ארצה עם אחיו הצעיר והשתקע בראשון לציון. כאן עבד בפקידות ומתוך השתלמות וקריאה שקדנית בספרי-מדע רכש לו השכלה ניכרת. מראשית שנות בגרותו היה פעיל בשורות ה"הגנה". במלחמת-העולם השנייה שירת שלוש שנים בבריגדה היהודית. מששוחרר מהצבא הבריטי חזר לעבודתו וללימודיו בהשתלמות עצמית והתמסר לעזרה לאמו ולמשפחתו. משפרצה מלחמת-העצמאות התגייס לצבא ושירת בחטיבה 7. עם כניסת הלגיון למלחמה תפסו כוחותיו את מערך לטרון וניתקו את הדרך לירושלים. המצב בעיר החמיר והוחלט לפרוץ את הדרך אליה במבצע "בן-נון א'" והמשימה הוטלה על חטיבתו. כוחות החטיבה נתקלו באויב עדיף ונאלצו לסגת תוך ניהול קרב קשה. בקרב זה נפל, ביום י"ז באייר תש"ח (26.5.1948). ביום כ"ה בחשוון תש"י (17.11.1949) הובא למנוחת-עולמים בבית-הקברות הצבאי בהר- הרצל בירושלים.
