What Happened

בן לאה ושמואל, נולד ביום ח' בתשרי תרפ"ט (22.9.1928) באיסטנבול (קושטא), תורכיה. אח ליצחק, סוזן (מלכה), פורטונה (מזל) ובנימין. מנחם התחנך במשפחה מסורתית ומנעוריו שאף לעלות ארצה וכשהבדיקה הרפואית מצאה שאינו חזק דיו לכך - עשה הכל כדי לבטלה. גם על הוריו השפיע לבוא אחריו. מנחם עלה לארץ בשנת 1943 והצטרף לקבוצת "עמלים" בשדה נחום. ונקשר אליה בכל לבו ונפשו; הצטרף להכשרה מגויסת בגבעת ברנר, ושם נשא באמונה במשך שנתיים כל תפקיד שהוטל עליו. הוא קיווה לבוא הוריו בקרוב והתכונן לקראת התיישבות קבוצתו במשק צובא, אך עם זה לא התעלם מן הצפוי לו, ולא אחת היה אומר לחבריו: "איני בטוח אם אנחנו כולנו נזכה לראות בהגשמת חלומותינו. הרי בקרוב מחכה לנו מערכה גדולה". בשלהי חודש נובמבר 1947 נשלח עם חמשת חבריו למשמר הנגב לתפקידי שמירה על צינור- המים ובעת הסיור נפל מידי מתנקשים מן המארב ביום כ"ח בכסלו תש"ח (11.12.1947) בדרך בין שדות משמר הנגב ובין באר שבע. מצבה לזכרו הוקמה בבית-הקברות הצבאי בהר-הרצל בירושלים. החלל הינו מקל''ן- חלל שמקום קבורתו לא נודע.
