Turai Avraham Tenenboim served in the Israel Defense Forces. Avraham served with the Armored Corps. Avraham served in the War of Independence. Avraham was 23 years old.

What Happened

בן חנה וברוך-דויד, נולד בראש חודש אלול תרפ"ה (21.8.1925) בעיר ויסקוב, פולין. בפרוץ מלחמת-העולם השנייה נמלט עם המשפחה לברית-המועצות ועד סיביר הגיע. שם עבד ופירנס את הוריו. בשנת 1942 התנדב לצבא הפולני שקם על אדמת ברית- המועצות ולחם איתו, בדרגת סרג'נט, עד סיום המלחמה. הוא לחם בגבורה ואף קיבל אותות-הצטיינות. עם תום המלחמה, עבר עם משפחתו מפולין לגרמניה. הוריו החליטו לצאת לארגנטינה, אך חיים החליט לעלות ארצה. ביום 13.8.1948 הגיע לארץ. נלקח לעתלית וכעבור חודש הושבע והצטרף לצה"ל, ושירת בחטיבת הנגב. לאחר תקופת-אימונים קצרה השתתף בכיבוש באר שבע והצטיין בקרב. אחר-כך השלים את האימונים, הגיע לדרגת ממלא-מקום מ"כ והשתתף במבצע "חורב" לסילוק הצבא המצרי מתחום ישראל. אברהם-חיים נפל ביום כ"ו בכסלו תש"ט (28.12.1948) בכיבוש משלט אבו-עגילה. בשעת ההסתערות על המשלט נפצע במרחק 5 מטרים מפסגתו ודקות מספר לפני כיבוש המשלט. נקבר ברביבים. דבריו האחרונים, שנאמרו ביידיש לחברו, היו: "אני מת בשדה הקרב. לא זכיתי ליהנות מהאושר של שחרור-המולדת הגמור. זכור את הורי!" הניח אחריו אישה. ביום א' באלול תש"י (14.8.1950) הועבר למנוחת-עולמים בבית-הקברות הצבאי בנחלת יצחק.
