Turai Imanuel Bitran served in the Israel Defense Forces. Imanuel served with the Infantry. Imanuel served in the War of Independence. Imanuel was 20 years old.

What Happened

בן גרציה (חנה) ומרדכי-אברהם (מרקו), נולד ביום י"ד באדר תרפ"ח (6.3.1928) בתל-אביב וגדל בבית-הוריו במקווה-ישראל. בבית-הספר העממי נשתבח באדיבותו ובשקידתו וגמר את לימודיו בהצטיינות. הוא נמשך לצופיות ולספורט והצטיין כשחיין. לאחר שהחל לעבוד בחרטות ויציקת מתכת הצטרף ל"נוער העובד" ויצא ביחד עם חבריו להכשרה חקלאית. בייחוד אהב לקרוא בתנ"ך וכל אשר קרא נחרת עמוק בנפשו. חיבתו לטבע ולאדמת הארץ באה על סיפוקה בהיותו בסביבה חקלאית, אשר נקשר אליה בעודו בגיל רך ביותר. ההדים מן הגלות על זוועות הטבח שפקדו את פזורי האומה במלחמת-העולם השנייה מחד-גיסא, ונעילת שערי הארץ בפני השרידים על-ידי השלטון הזר מאידך-גיסא, לא נתנו מנוח לנפשו. עמנואל חיפש את הדרך למלחמה נגד השלטון הזר והצטרף למחתרת אצ"ל. עם חבריו למחתרת השתתף בכמה פעולות נגד הבריטים ועם תחילת מלחמת-העצמאות בחורף תש"ח השתתף בפעולות-גמול נגד הערבים. ביום י"ז בניסן תש"ח (26.4.1948) השתתף עם כוחות אצ"ל, בקרבות לכיבוש יפו, ושם נפל. כשנפגע פגיעת מוות מכדור האויב, עוד הספיק לומר לחברו בקול נחלש והולך: "כל דבר יקר נקנה בדמים רבים, ומולדת על אחת כמה וכמה..." עמנואל הובא למנוחת-עולמים בבית-הקברות הצבאי בנחלת יצחק.
