בן קמונה (רחל) ודוד (כלאפו), נולד בשנת 1919 בעיר טריפולי, בירת לוב. בעירו למד בבית-ספר יסודי ועבד כספר במספרה. בצעירותו נתייתם מאביו, ועול פרנסת המשפחה נפל עליו ועל אחיו. בשל דאגתו היתירה לבית דחה את עלייתו לארץ, שחלם עליה מאז הצטרף לתנועת-הנוער הציונית "בן-יהודה". כשהגיעה ללוב שמועת מלחמת-העצמאות והכרזת המדינה עזב את הגולה, עלה לארץ והתגייס. רפאל קיווה שיצליח להכשיר את הקרקע לעליית כל בני המשפחה. רק זמן קצר זכה לנשום את אווירת הארץ ועם בואו נשלח לחזית ירושלים. ביום כ' באב תש"ח (25.8.1948) נפל בשייח'-ג'ראח מכדור צלף ערבי. נקבר בשייח'-באדר א'. ביום י"ז באלול תש"י (30.8.1950) הועבר למנוחת-עולמים בבית-הקברות הצבאי בהר- הרצל בירושלים.
