Turai Yaakov Miller served in the Israel Defense Forces. Yaakov served with the Infantry. Yaakov served in the War of Independence. Yaakov was 38 years old.

What Happened

בן בלה והרמן, נולד ביום ה' בשבט תר"ע (15.1.1910) בעיר גירה, גרמניה. היה בוגר גימנסיה והספיק לסיים את לימודי המשפטים באוניברסיטה בשנת 1933, אבל לא הוסמך כעורך-דין כי בינתיים השתלטו הנאצים על המדינה. היה חובב-ספר מופלג ומשנאלץ לבחור במקצוע מעשי, נעשה פועל-דפוס וקנה לו במהרה מומחיות בסידור-יד. מלבד ספרות אהב מוסיקה והגיע להישגים ניכרים בנגינה בפסנתר. יעקב עלה לארץ ב- 19.9.1938 ועבד בבתי-דפוס שונים, תחילה בתל-אביב ואחר-כך בירושלים. היה ידוע בשל אהבתו לספר, ולא ראוהו עובר ברחוב בלי ספר בידו. בפרוץ מלחמת-העצמאות לאחר החלטת עצרת האו"ם על חלוקת הארץ, גויס גיוס חלקי בשל בריאות לקויה והוסיף לעבוד במקצועו. בדרכו לעבודה ב- 15.9.1948 נפצע קשה על-ידי כדור ולמחרת, ביום י"ב באלול תש"ח (16.9.1948), מת מפצעיו. נקבר בשייח'-באדר א'. ביום י"ז באלול תש"י (30.8.1950) הועבר למנוחת-עולמים בבית-הקברות הצבאי בהר-הרצל בירושלים.
