Samal Michael Shalit Herman served in the Israel Defense Forces. Michael served with the Civil Defense (HAGA). Michael served in the Six-Day War. Michael was 40 years old.

What Happened

בן רודולף ומרגרט. נולד ביום ו' בתמוז תרפ"ו (18.6.1926) בעיר קניגסברג אשר בגרמניה. המשפחה עלתה לארץ בשנת 1937, התיישבה בכפר והקימה משק חקלאי. בכרכור סיים את לימודיו היסודיים ולאחר-מכן המשיך ללמוד בבית-הספר החקלאי בן-שמן ולימודיו אלה הכשירוהו לעבודה חקלאית. לאחר זמן למד בחוג לכלכלה של פעילי ההסתדרות. שירת בפלמ"ח. גויס לצה"ל באוגוסט 1950 ושירת בהגנה המרחבית ובפיקוד העורף במלחמת-הקוממיות ובמערכת-סיני. היה יצא למילואים בהיקראו מדי פעם, וכך היה גם לפני מלחמת ששת הימים, בה נפל בשעת מילוי תפקידו ביום השני לקרבות, הוא כ"ז באייר תשכ"ז (6.6.1967), בהפגעו מהתפוצצות מטוס של האויב בשטח-מחנהו. הניח אשה ושני בנים. הובא למנוחת-עולמים בקבר-אחים אשר בבית-הקברות הצבאי בחיפה. ב"גוילי אש", כרך ד', הוא ילקוט עזבונם של הבנים שנפלו במערכות-ישראל, הובא מעזבונו.
