What Happened

בן מלכה ורחמים, נולד ביום י' בשבט תרע"ז (2.2.1917) בירושלים, נצר למשפחה ספרדית שישבה בארץ כמה מאות שנים. בימי מלחמת-העולם הראשונה, בהיותו תינוק, יצא אביו לתורכיה כחייל וחזר רק כעבור שלוש שנים ועל המשפחה עברו ימי רעב ותלאות עד הכיבוש הבריטי. אברהם למד בירושלים בגן-ילדים ובבית-הספר "אליאנס", אותו סיים בהצטיינות, ולבסוף בבית- ספר תיכוני למסחר. אברהם הירבה לכתוב חיבורים ושירים ושאף להוסיף ללמוד ולהשתלם במדעי-הרוח, אך בשל מצב כלכלי קשה ויתר על תוכניותיו והחל לעבוד בדואר במחלקת החשבונות, והצטיין בעבודתו זו. עם פרוץ מלחמת-העצמאות נקרא להגנת העיר ונפל ביום י"א בתמוז תש"ח (18.7.1948) בהתקפת הלגיון הערבי על "בתי-מנדלבוים". גופתו נשארה שלושה ימים קבורה תחת עיי-מפולת והובאה אחר-כך לקבר ישראל בשייח'-באדר א'. אביו שלא יכול להבליג על צערו, נפטר חודשיים אחרי נפילת בנו. ביום י"ז באלול תש"י (30.8.1950) הועבר למנוחת-עולמים בבית-הקברות הצבאי בהר- הרצל בירושלים.
