Turai Baruh Libel served in the Israel Defense Forces. Baruh served with the Infantry. Baruh served in the War of Independence. Baruh was 23 years old.

What Happened

בן אפרים ושרה, נולד ביום י"ג בניסן תרפ"ה (7.4.1925) בעיר צ'רנוביץ, רומניה. סיים בית-ספר תיכון והצטיין במיוחד במתמטיקה. עזר לחבריו שהתקשו בבחינות במתמטיקה. אהב את הספר ובכל שעה פנויה התעמק בקריאה. בימי מצוקה, אחרי מלחמת-העולם השנייה, התעניין מאוד באחיו עניי עירו ועזר להם בהתרמת מכיריו וידידיו ובחלוקת התרומות בין הנצרכים. בעיצומם של הקרבות בארץ, בשנת 1948, עלה ארצה, התגייס לצבא הגנה לישראל ושירת בחטיבת "אלכסנדרוני". ברוך השתתף בקרבות וירד עם החטיבה לחזית הדרום. בעת מבצע "חורב", נערך מבצע "חיסול" נגד "כיס פלוג'ה", שבו היתה נצורה חטיבה מצרית. ההתקפה נערכה על אגפו המזרחי של ה"כיס", באזור עיראק אל-מנשיה. כוחות "אלכסנדרוני" פרצו לכפר מדרום והשתלטו על חלקו, אך הסתערותם על התל שמצפון לכפר נהדפה. בינתיים התאוששו המצרים ותקפו נגד ואילצו את כוחותינו לסגת. חלק מהכוח נלכד בתוך הכפר. בקרב זה נפל, ביום כ"ו בכסלו תש"ט (28.12.1948). הובא למנוחת-עולמים, עם חבריו לקרב, בקבר-אחים בבית- הקברות הצבאי בנחלת יצחק.
