What Happened

בן מינה ופייביש, נולד בשנת תר"ץ (1930) בכפר פויין חבל מולדביה, רומניה. בהיותו עדיין ילד נפטרו הוריו והילדים פוזרו בין קרובי המשפחה במקומות שונים. בשנת תש"ו בהיותו בן שש- עשרה עלה מרדכי לארץ-ישראל במסגרת עליית-הנוער, תחילה התגורר בקיבוץ ואחר-כך עבר לתל תלפיות, ששימש בשעתו מחנה מעבר לעולים חדשים בירושלים. במלחמת-העצמאות התגייס והוצב בחטיבת "אלכסנדרוני" בגדוד 33. לקראת מבצע "חורב" הורדה החטיבה דרומה ונערכה סביב "כיס פלוג'ה". בעת מבצע "חורב" נערך מבצע "חיסול" נגד "כיס פלוג'ה", שבו היתה נצורה חטיבה מצרית. ההתקפה נערכה על אגפו המזרחי של ה"כיס", באזור עיראק אל-מנשיה. כוחות "אלכסנדרוני" פרצו לכפר מדרום והשתלטו על חלקו, אך הסתערותם על התל שמצפון לכפר נהדפה. בינתיים התאוששו המצרים, תקפו נגד ואילצו את כוחותינו לסגת. חלק מהכוח נלכד בתוך הכפר. בקרב זה נפל, ביום כ"ו בכסלו תש"ט (28.12.1948) עם 92 לוחמים נוספים, אשר הובאו לקבורה בקבר אחים בפלוג'ה. כעבור שנה לערך הועבר למנוחת-עולמים בבית-הקברות הצבאי בנחלת יצחק.
