Turai David Baruh served in the Israel Defense Forces. David served with the Armored Corps. David served in the War of Independence. David was 21 years old.

What Happened

בן מלכה ומשה, נולד ביום כ"ד באלול תרפ"ו (3.9.1926) בעיר אדורנו, תורכיה. הוא התחנך חינוך יהודי וכללי ולמד מסגרות. בשנת 1943 עלה לארץ, עשה שנתיים בחברת-נוער בקיבוץ גבעת חיים ועבד במסגרות ובטרקטור. הוא התאמן בגדנ"ע, עבר לפלמ"ח ושירת שנתיים וחצי במשמר על גבול סוריה בחולתא ואחר-כך בבית השיטה. אחרי שחרורו עבד חודשים אחדים בתל- אביב, מקום מגורי אחיו. לאחר החלטת עצרת האו"ם על חלוקת הארץ, כשפרצה מלחמת- העצמאות, חזר מיד לשירות בפלמ"ח, ולהטה בו התשוקה להילחם למען המדינה העברית עד לניצחון. דויד סיים קורסי חובשות ואלחוט. נטל חלק בליווי שיירות לירושלים והשתתף בהרבה קרבות קשים. משנותקה התחבורה נשאר בירושלים והמשיך שם בשירות כחובש קרבי. בקרב על קטמון ב-28.4.1948 נפצע קשה בידו ובבטנו. בבית-החולים עוד זכה לשמוע על יסוד מדינת ישראל, אך מאמצי הרופאים להצילו עלו בתוהו למרות ששרד משלושה ניתוחים. דויד נפטר מפצעיו ביום כ"א באייר תש"ח (30.5.1948) והובא לקבורה בשייח'- באדר א'. ביום כ"ח באלול תש"י (10.9.1950) הועבר למנוחת-עולמים בבית-הקברות הצבאי בהר- הרצל בירושלים.
