Turai Mazid Ganem served in the Israel Defense Forces. Mazid served with the Infantry. Mazid served in the War of Independence.

What Happened

בן סלחה וסלים-עבדאללה, נולד ביולי 1928 בכפר עין אלאסאד שבגליל המערבי. אמו עזבה אותו בהיותו בן שנה וחצי, ומאז גידל אותו אביו. בהיותו בן שבע נכנס לבית-הספר שבכפר וסיים בו ארבע כיתות. אחר-כך התחיל לעבוד בשדה עם אביו הפלח ולמד גם את מלאכת הנגרות. היה בן מסור ותומך באביו הישיש. בפרוץ מלחמת-העצמאות התגייס בחודש יולי 1948 ליחידת הדרוזים בחיל-המיעוטים, התאמן בנשר והשתתף בשחרור הגליל המערבי. בעת מבצע "חירם" לשחרור הגליל המערבי לחמה היחידה תחת פיקודה של חטיבת "עודד", שפעלה בגזרה המערבית של המבצע. בליל 28-29 באוקטובר תקפו כוחותינו את תרשיחא ועל יחידת הדרוזים הוטל לכבוש את הכפר ינוח. ההתקפה על תרשיחא לא עלתה יפה ולכוחות ניתנה הוראה לסגת. יחידת הדרוזים השתלטה על ינוח, אך בשל תקלות בקשר לא קיבלה את פקודת הנסיגה. עם בוקר התאוששו כוחות קאוקג'י ובסיוע חלק מאנשי הכפר תקפו את היחידה וזו נאלצה לסגת. נפל בקרב ביום 29.10.1948 ולמחרת נקבר בשדה הקרב בינוח. ביום 30.11.1954 הועבר למנוחת-עולמים בבית-הקברות הצבאי הדרוזי בכפר עוספיא שעל הר-הכרמל.
