Yankees promoting top prospect Elmer Rodriguez for MLB debut Wednesday

ARLINGTON, Texas — The Yankees’ rotation is about to get an injection of youth, at least for a start or two.

Elmer Rodriguez will be promoted to make his big league debut Wednesday against the Rangers, a source confirmed Tuesday.

The 22-year-old right-hander has pitched to a 1.27 ERA through four starts at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, and is ranked the team’s No. 3 prospect, per MLB.com.

They could have waited until next week to re-insert a fifth starter, taking advantage of Thursday’s off day, but instead they will have Rodriguez jump in Wednesday, a week after his most recent start at Triple-A.

The Yankees acquired Rodriguez from the Red Sox for catcher Carlos Narváez ahead of the 2025 season.

Rodriguez may only get a start or two because Carlos Rodón is expected back soon from the injured list.

The lefty is scheduled to make another rehab start Thursday and then should need at least one more before he returns.
