Anna Wintour’s daughter-in-law borrows from her closet for ‘Devil Wears Prada 2’ premiere

Anna Wintour’s daughter-in-law Elizabeth Cordry Shaffer stepped onto the red carpet at Monday’s “The Devil Wears Prada 2” premiere in NYC wearing a tea-length Prada dress splashed with a red and blue abstract floral print — one that gave eagle-eyed fashion followers déjà vu.

As the Instagram account @wintourdrobe pointed out, Shaffer’s beige frock previously belonged to Wintour, 76, who wore the same dress to the Association for Frontotemporal Degeneration’s Hope Rising Benefit at the Pierre Hotel in 2019.

“2nd hand Prada is better than none!” the account captioned side-by-side photos of the two women in the matching look, with Shaffer in metallic sandals and Wintour accessorizing with a brown leather belt and statement necklace.

Shaffer married Wintour’s son, Charles Shaffer, at the Vogue editor’s Long Island estate in 2014 after the pair met at Oxford University. They share two daughters.

The recycled Prada was a fitting choice for a night centered on the fashion franchise that’s become inextricable from Wintour’s own legacy. The Condé Nast chief content officer — and the inspiration for Meryl Streep’s Miranda Priestly — has been leaning into the connection in the lead-up to the sequel, from filming a gag scene to covering Vogue alongside Streep.

For the premiere, Wintour chose a different archival piece — a custom striped Prada Spring 2016 dress — while daughter Bee Carrozzini joined in Valentino Resort 2026.

Shaffer’s hand-me-down Prada may have been the biggest flex of the evening, however — because who needs a stylist when fashion’s most exclusive closet is just an invitation to Sunday dinner away?

“The Devil Wears Prada 2” opens in theaters May 1.
