Former UFC champion Mark Hunt was arrested for domestic violence after he allegedly threatened to kill a woman on Tuesday night in South Wales, Australia, according to the Sydney Morning Herald.
The 52-year-old ex-heavyweight was taken into custody following a dispute with the woman, who was not identified by the outlet, at a home in the Northern Rivers.
“I’m just going to murder you in the end anyway,” Hunt allegedly texted the woman.
He is facing one count of stalking or intimidation with intent to cause physical harm.
Hunt’s legal team reportedly disputed that he sent a death threat to the woman over text during a Wednesday court appearance.
The woman, said to be a family member, was helping Hunt with a task at the home when he allegedly became aggressive, behaving in an “intimidating and berating manner,” causing “fear and distress” for the woman and a witness, according to the Sydney Morning Herald.
Hunt, who was refused bail ahead of a court appearance on Wednesday, agreed to a set of strict conditions in order to bond out, according to TMZ.
He spent the night in custody at Ballina Police Station.
Hunt, known as the “Super Samoan” during his eight-year UFC career, reportedly has another court date at the end of April.
Hunt also competed in kickboxing and boxing, and had success in Australian and New Zealand combat sports.
In his 2015 autobiography, “Born to Fight,” Hunt details his “troubled teen years, and his angry youth with no apparent future.”
