Rep. Eric Swalwell resigned from Congress after allegations of sexual misconduct became public. Getty Images The Issue: Rep. Eric Swalwell resigns from Congress after a spate of sexual-assault allegations. Eric Swalwell dropping out of his gubernatorial race and resigning from Congress was a good move (“Swal’s well that ends,” April 14).
I am sure he didn’t do this out of sincere remorse, but political necessity.
However, if the accusations against him are proven beyond a reasonable doubt, he should be forced to forfeit his congressional pension and other benefits.
I’m tired of hard-working taxpayers having to foot the bill for a politician’s moral failures and other egregious behavior.
Those who covered for him should suffer similar consequences.
Sexual-assault allegations have now prompted Eric Swalwell to discontinue his campaign for California governor and resign his House seat.
His next step should be to ask ex-girlfriend Fang Fang to fast-track his application for asylum in China so the two of them can live happily ever after. Good riddance.
It’s unbelievable that Swalwell, now accused of drugging and raping numerous women, has not been arrested, but is allowed to resign and collect his pension and other benefits paid for by taxpayers.
He’s clearly a criminal and predator who should be in jail with Harvey Weinstein.
Swalwell’s forced resignation — when these accusations have supposedly long been well-known — merely shows how desperate Dems are to save California from electing a Republican governor.
However, last month the House voted to bury Resolution 1100, a transparency proposal that would have released records on sexual-misconduct allegations in Congress and on the use of a slush fund to silence accusations.
This is why Congress is despised by the people — the same people who consistently keep the same members in office.
Since Swalwell vows to fight the sexual-assault allegations against him with everything he has, how about a video of him taking an independent polygraph examination?
In a place like DC, where women are offered as the appetizer, main course and dessert on many high-ranking lobbyists’ menus, I don’t buy that Eric Swalwell is being railroaded by his own people for indulging in the “delicacies” that many of those same people frequently enjoy.
Something’s caught up with this man, and sexual misconduct is being used against him the same way tax evasion was used against Al Capone.
Who knows, perhaps Swalwell will squawk like a stool pigeon and take others down with him?
With multiple women accusing Swalwell of sexual assault, given his past relationship with a Chinese spy, it’s time to expose all the NDAs paid for with taxpayer dollars to hide the sexual appetite of members of Congress.
It’s a dark, cruel world; at times, it’s easy to doubt the very existence of God.
And then the criminally hypocritical imbecile Eric Swalwell is accused of sexual assault.
During the pandemic, while the rest of America was suffering, Swalwell and his buddies enjoyed luxurious lifestyles at government expense in five-star hotels.
Beyond the realm of allegations, Swalwell was involved in a lascivious sexual affair while sitting on the House Intelligence Committee.
At last, he is being held to account for his alleged rape and sexual misconduct with staffers and others known, unknown or soon to be identified.
Democrats knew this for years. Now all these women are coming out with these charges.
