There will be ‘no exemptions’ to the levies, the US president says, after the two countries agree to a ceasefire
1-MIN READ1-MIN ListenSCMP ReporterPublished: 8:11pm, 8 Apr 2026Updated: 8:14pm, 8 Apr 2026US President Donald Trump has threatened to impose 50 per cent tariffs on any country supplying weapons to Iran.
“A Country supplying Military Weapons to Iran will be immediately tariffed, on any and all goods sold to the United States of America, 50%, effective immediately. There will be no exclusions or exemptions! President DJT,” Trump said on social media on Wednesday, without saying which countries would be affected.
In an earlier post on Wednesday he said the US and Iran would work closely to “dig up and remove” nuclear material buried deeply in Iran after US air strikes last year, and there would be no more enrichment of uranium by Iran.
The threat came after Iran and the US agreed to a two-week ceasefire, mediated by Pakistan, and to hold peace talks on Friday.
