Make California Post a Preferred Source Two people died after their small plane crashed near an airport in Petaluma Wednesday.
The aircraft went down near the Petaluma Municipal Airport and nearby Rooster Run Golf Club around 10:30 a.m.
The Federal Aviation Administration confirmed that plane was a Van’s RV-7A carrying two people.
A small plane crashed at Rooster Run Golf Course near the Petaluma Municipal Airport Wednesday. NBC BAY AREA Officers responded to a report of the crash and found the aircraft fully engulfed in flames, with two people found dead inside. NBC BAY AREA Witness video showed fire crews hosing down the plane as heavy smoke billowed from the wreckage.
The identities of the victims are currently unknown.
The Petaluma Police Department said in a statement that responding officers found the “two deceased people inside the aircraft” and the downed plane “was fully engulfed in frames.”
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) are investigating the incident.
Authorities said that any additional information about the aircraft, victim’s identities and circumstances surrounding the crash will be released by the FAA and NTSB since the agencies are leading the investigation.
“Our thoughts are with the families and loved ones of those involved in this tragic incident,” the police department added.
