Make New York Post a Preferred Source Late last month, NYU Lagone Hospital joined Mt. Sinai, agreeing to end gender care for minors under pressure from the Trump administration.
It was good news, but don’t tell that to wacky trans actor Elliot Page, who joined protesters outside the hospital and declared the outcome was the result of “bigoted politics.”
“Is this the kind of country we want to live in?” asked Page in an instagram video from the scene.
Why yes, Elliot. I do want to live in this kind of country.
I want to live in a country that puts firm safeguards in place for vulnerable, gender confused children.
I want to live in a country that thinks twice about indulging the whims of a minor swept up in a mental health crisis — and promised by activists that their life will be perfect if only they can change everything about themself.
We do not let children lead, just as we do not let them drive, vote, drink alcohol or get tattoos. We protect them.
Page can carry on and pretend that United States is some sort of big, bad, mean outlier in the rest of the Western world when it comes to treating children with gender dysmorphia.
We lagged behind many European countries that pumped the brakes on medicalizing distressed children. That includes the United Kingdom, which banned puberty blockers in 2024 after the Cass Review found that clinical guidelines were built on shaky evidence.
Like many activists, Page tries to make it sound gentle and kind by referring to it as “gender affirming care.” But there is nothing gentle or healthy about pumping minors full of puberty blocks, cross sex hormones or cutting off healthy body parts.
These medications can lead to sterilization, the loss of sexual function and many other complications. Young people simply aren’t capable of consenting nor even comprehending such a life altering decision at that tender age.
Still, Page insists that it is “necessary, backed by science, and supported by every major credible medical association.”
Except the American Society of Plastic Surgeons has recommended delaying such surgeries for minors. And now that the fever surrounding child transition has broken, many healthcare professionals continue to echo similar conclusions to the Cass Review.
Before people started coming to their senses and whistleblowers emerged, the medical industry switched to affirming any adolescent experiencing discomfort. Even if they also had a long list of comorbidities that clearly suggested a whole host of other problems.
If a kid said were the opposite gender, then well, shucks, they were.
Parents who objected were told they were child abusers and some states allowed schools to keep children’s social transitions a secret from meddling parents.
The whole chapter was a travesty. But Page thinks the real reckoning has yet to come.
“One day, many will look back on all of this and say, ‘We should have known better.’ But we do know better, right now, that denying this care hurts children and leads to increased depression and worse,” the 39-year-old said.
We are already looking back and witnessing a parade of detransitioners come forward with tales of horror because we allowed a medical industry to run roughshod over vulnerable children. They continue to live with the physical consequences every day and lawsuits have been filed. In January, a New York jury awarded detransitioner Fox Varian $2 million after a doctor cut off her breasts at age 16.
“Kids’ lives are on the line,” said Page, summoning the manipulative language of the peak woke era that forced many parents to go along with deranged doctor recommendations and allow their children to medically transition.
Page came out as transgender at the age of 33. The “Juno” star was able to go through puberty and then make the decision as a full fledged adult.
If someone grows up and still feels that they will benefit from transitioning, that is a completely different story.
Distressed children should be given psychological care and the time to figure themselves out.
They don’t need people like Page convincing them that they need drugs and harmful surgeries to become a compete and happy person.
