Make Page Six a Preferred Source Luke Grimes said he hasn’t spoken to his “Yellowstone” co-star Kevin Costner since the Oscar-winning actor exited the series in 2024.
But he noted that there’s no bad blood between them.
“I have never spoken to Kevin since we stopped working together,” Grimes told USA Today in an interview Monday. “Not for any other reason other than we are both just busy guys and life moves on.”
Grimes, who plays Kayce Dutton in the “Yellowstone” universe, doubted that Costner will ever reprise his role as his on-screen dad, John Dutton, on “Marshals,” the CBS spinoff.
“If there was a flashback, I would want it to be with [Kayce’s wife] Monica than John,” Grimes said. “I think that would be more poignant to the character, but we will see.”
“There’s been no conversation, but, I sure would love it,” he continued.
He noted of actress Kelsey Asbille, who played Monica in “Yellowstone,” “I love working with her.”
Grimes is the star of “Marshals” — the fourth television show in the “Yellowstone” franchise — which follows Kayce as he joins an elite U.S. Marshals unit in Montana. It’s currently in its second season.

Costner’s character was shockingly killed off in the fifth and final season of “Yellowstone” amid rumors of a falling out between him and series creator Taylor Sheridan.
Sheridan made rare comments about Costner’s departure from the hit Western in June, sharing that the “Bodyguard” star wanted off of the show after three seasons, but was pressured to stay for two more.
“That was in his contract. In my mind, that’s when his youngest son takes over [on the show]… But the network was so scared of not having Kevin be a part of it, even though Kevin was ready,” Sheridan said on the “Bill Simmons Podcast.”
“He was ready to go,” he continued. “He had other things he wanted to do.”
Costner, 71, extended his tenure on the series because it “was such a behemoth,” Sheridan noted.
“It was such a huge hit,” he stressed. “The notion of giving up a hit before it had run out of juice to squeeze is very foreign to a network.”
“There was even pressure from some of the cable companies wanting to put it in their deals, that they were going to get an X-number of seasons of ‘Yellowstone’ to re-up what this cable company is,” he continued. “That’s the power of a really big hit show.”
Costner released his Western movie, “Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 1,” in June 2024 after his “Yellowstone” exit, but it bombed at the box office.
