Add The New York Post on Google On Thursday, Sept. 10, Gustavo Dudamel made his New York Philharmonic debut.
That evening, the 45-year-old Venezuelan virtuoso brought in host Liev Schrieber as well as guest musicians Lizzo, St. Vincent, Joaquina and Tony winning-actor Aaron Tveit while paying tribute to composers as varied as George Gershwin and Arturo Márquez at Radio City Music Hall.
“Dudamel exudes energy, turning the typically two-handed activity of conducting an orchestra into a full-body routine,” Newsweek raved after night one.
In shows since, he’s livened up the orchestra.
“[The Philharmonic’s] members haven’t looked this happy onstage in years,” New York Times classical music critic Joshua Barone noted. “Either he inspires them, or his starry arrival has lifted their morale. Or both. Whatever is going on, it works.”
If you’d like to see Dudamel and his rejuvenated ensemble live, tickets are available for all of his remaining shows in New York at Lincoln Center’s David Geffen Hall from now through June 2027.
At the time of publication, the lowest price we could find on seats for any one show was $37 including fees on Vivid Seats (although that’s for a special documentary screening followed by a chat with Dudamel).
Other shows have tickets starting anywhere from $123 to $512 including fees.
A handful of the upcoming concerts will be major events. Just a few of the most notable programmed include “Yo -Yo Ma and Dudamel” (Oct. 2), “Marina Abramovic and Dudamel” (March 12 and 14) and “Dudamel conducts Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony” (June 5, 2027) among others.
“There are not borders. There are bridges,” the nine-time Grammy winner said about the shows he’s conducting. “A symphonic orchestra can also be immersed in a pop, folk, musicals. We are all in the same space. I think that is the message.”
