Two dead after car hits group of pedestrians

A man has been arrested after two pedestrians were killed when a car crashed into a group of people in Doncaster.

South Yorkshire Police said officers were called to White Rose Way at 11:00 BST on Sunday to reports a black Mitsubishi L200 had hit four pedestrians and then crashed into a black Audi and silver BMW on the opposite carriageway.

Police said officers were working to identify the two pedestrians who died at the scene before informing their next of kin.

The driver of the Mitsubishi, a 30-year-old man, was arrested on suspicion of two counts of causing death by dangerous driving, two counts of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and driving while unfit.

He had since been released on bail pending further inquiries, police said.

Anyone who witnessed the crash or who has dashcam footage is asked to contact South Yorkshire Police.
