Add The New York Post on Google A elderly man was killed and two other people were injured when a graffiti-covered flatbed truck careened onto a curb and ran them down at a busy Lower Manhattan intersection Thursday morning, cops said.
The 66-year-old driver was turning right on Bowery from Canal Street in Chinatown at around 10:20 a.m. when the cargo-laden vehicle hurtled onto the sidewalk and killed the 77-year-old man and left two women, ages, 71 and 52, hospitalized, authorities said.
A photo from the scene obtained by The Post shows the three victims sprawled out on the pavement – two right next to each other and the third a couple feet away.
But the trucker continued driving toward the end of the block at Hester Street, where he slammed into a sedan and stopped, police said.
The pedestrians were taken to Bellevue Hospital, where the senior succumbed to his injuries and the two women were listed in stable condition, cops said.
Video obtained by Streetsblog shows the truck, with wooden pallets piled up on the deck, moving faster than other traffic on the street and nudging another truck in its path.
The moment the driver allegedly struck the pedestrians and the sedan is not shown.
The motorist was taken into custody and was not immediately charged.
He didn’t show any overt signs of impairment, according to law enforcement sources.
The investigation is ongoing by the NYPD’s Highway District’s Collision Investigation Squad, police said.
