Add The California Post on Google Los Angeles rush hour got a whole lot uglier Wednesday as a brush fire tore through the hills near the Getty Center, sending thick smoke over the 405 Freeway and triggering a major firefighting response.
The blaze, known as the Getty Fire, erupted around 4:15 p.m. above the northbound lanes of Interstate 405 near Getty Center Drive in Brentwood, with firefighters describing approximately five acres of well-involved brush.
Video obtained by The California Post shows dense clouds of smoke billowing over the freeway.
Aerial footage showed flames ripping through dense vegetation as crews battle the flames.
Multiple aircraft were also dispatched to attack the fire from above.
Ten additional engines were requested by an arriving unit as the Los Angeles Fire Department called in hand crews and air resources.
LAFD Air Operations reported that no structures were threatened at the time.
No injuries had been reported, but the blaze erupted during the afternoon rush, with smoke hanging over one of Los Angeles’ major freeway corridors.
