Add The New York Post on Google Satou Sabally’s season has officially come to an end.
The Liberty announced Thursday that Sabally will miss the remainder of the season as she continues to deal with the aftermath of suffering her second concussion in less than a year.
The writing had been on the wall for quite some time.
Sabally suffered a concussion in the Liberty’s June 23 win in Las Vegas, and has been MIA since.
After spending seven weeks in concussion protocol, she cleared the league’s guideline, but still wasn’t 100 percent. The Liberty, in turn, changed her injury designation to “head injury.”

Heather Khalifa for NY Post Shortly after the switch, Liberty head coach Chris DeMarco announced Sabally would be stepping away from the team indefinitely.
“We’re not trying to rush anybody back,” DeMarco said on Aug. 13. “And it’s always going to be about the health of our players.”
A week later, Sabally shared the “incredibly hard news” on Instagram that she wouldn’t be representing Germany at this month’s FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup.
“Right now, I have to listen to my body, put my health first and prioritize my full recovery,” she wrote. “I feel your support for all these years and I’m so grateful for it.”
Sabally, who also suffered a concussion in Game 3 of the 2025 WNBA Finals for the Mercury that sidelined her for most of the offseason, was the Liberty’s biggest offseason acquisition aside from re-signing their Big 3 to long-term deals.

Heather Khalifa for the NY Post In the first season of her two-year, $1.67 million deal, Sabally was limited to 13 games, averaging 10.4 points, 2.8 rebounds and 1.9 assists.
Last week, DeMarco said he checks in with Sabally “fairly often.” He didn’t have an update other than saying he thought she was “doing well mentally.”
The WNBA is on break for the World Cup. The 24-16 Liberty return to action Sept. 18 in Minnesota.
