Add The New York Post on Google DALLAS — The surrogate mother who refused to terminate her pregnancy despite the wishes of the baby’s biological parents, broke down on the stand describing in painful detail how the abortion would have gone.
McKenna West gave an emotional testimony about the late-term procedure during a court hearing Tuesday on whether a temporary restraining order preventing her from making decisions about the critically ill baby would be upheld.
The 28-year-old nurse from Alaska called the idea of an abortion after the baby was 20 weeks “terrifying.” So she instead fled to Texas to carry the child to full-term despite his parents’ wishes to abort the child after learning he had a life-threatening but treatable heart condition.
“I knew that I wanted to protect him and I knew he deserved to be protected,” West told the court.
She tearfully described the procedure she refused to undergo — despite being contractually obligated to do so.
“It would have been a two-day procedure…they would have injected his heart with a solution that would stop it,” West described while tearing up.
Two days later, the fetus would have been removed, she said.
