Wimbledon school crash driver's trial set for 2027

The driver of a car which crashed into the grounds of a school in Wimbledon killing two eight-year-old girls will stand trial in September next year.

Nuria Sajjad and Selena Lau were struck by the Land Rover driven by Claire Freemantle which crashed into an end-of-term tea party on the lawn of The Study Preparatory School in south-west London on 6 July 2023.

Freemantle, 49, of Edge Hill, Wimbledon, faces two charges of causing death by dangerous driving and seven counts of causing serious injury to other parents and children.

She appeared at the Old Bailey earlier and spoke to confirm her identity. She was not asked to enter any pleas.

She is accused of causing the death of Nuria and Selena, as well as causing serious injury to Nuria's mother Smera Chohan and another mother, Tamsyn Van De Vyver.

A third mother and her seven-month-old baby were also injured, as well as two eight-year-old girls and a seven-year-old girl.

The judge set the provisional trial date for 6 September 2027.
