CloseA British family on holiday in Bedar has described the "terrifying" experience of escaping one of Spain's deadliest wildfires.

Twelve people in the village - among them four Britons - were killed, according to Spanish authorities.

Another 23 people are still missing. Lucinda Curtois, who arrived in Spain with her partner Riyaz Cheytan and their teenage children on Thursday, said they were not "expecting to hit a wall of fire".

They later found out that some close family friends had lost their lives.

"They left their home on foot, I don't know why," she said. "I can only presume it was probably because their road was cut off because they live out in the countryside."
