A police source said on Wednesday that the 66-year-old, an associate dean at the Chinese University of Hong Kong’s (CUHK) Faculty of Engineering, allegedly lost control of his vehicle at about 10.46pm on Monday at a staff residence on the university campus, crashing into a parked car and pushing it into a second vehicle.
Wong then drove away from the scene and parked his car outside another staff residence. A security guard reported the incident about 30 minutes later.
He later returned but failed a breathalyser test. No one was injured, but all three vehicles sustained damage.
Wong was arrested on suspicion of drink-driving, careless driving, and failing to stop and report an accident. He has been granted bail and is due to report back to police in late July.
Wong attended an official reception marking the 29th anniversary of Hong Kong’s handover to Chinese sovereignty on Wednesday morning.
