Turai Alexander Apapaldorper served in the Israel Defense Forces. Alexander served with the Infantry. Alexander was 22 years old.

What Happened

בן טובה וצבי, נולד ביום י"א באדר תרפ"ו (25.2.1926) בצ'כוסלובקיה. הוא למד בבית-ספר עממי ובא לארץ בשנת 1945 במסגרת "עליית-הנוער", עם ילדי בוכנוואלד. בארץ היה מכונאי כלי רכב. משנת 1946 היה חבר ב"הגנה" ועם התחלת הקרבות של מלחמת העצמאות ביקש להתגייס גיוס מלא, מאחר שלא יכול לחיות בשקט חיי אזרח כשמסביב גוברת התקפת האויב. במכתב לאחותו הדגיש, כי אינו נרתע מסכנת המלחמה: "היום פוגע הגורל בי ומחר באחר, אך מאושר אני ללחום על עצמאות העם, כי אין טעם בחיים ללא חירות". לאחר שהתייצב לשירות בחטיבת "אלכסנדרוני", עבר אימונים ובחודשי מרס-אפריל 1948 פעל עם מחלקתו בירושלים, בהרטוב ובנווה-יעקב ובחוזרו מירושלים השתתף בכיבוש תל-ליטווינסקי. ביום 12.5.1948 ביקר בבית אחיו ועמד לצאת לקורס בנתניה, אך יציאתו נדחתה ולמחרת, ביום ד' באייר תש"ח (13.5.1948), נפל בקרב על כפר סבא הערבית, והובא למנוחת-עולמים בבית-הקברות הצבאי בנחלת יצחק.
