Turai Meir Orbah served in the Israel Defense Forces. Meir served with the Infantry. Meir served in the War of Independence. Meir was 24 years old.

What Happened

בן זיסל וישעיהו, נולד ביום י"ב בתשרי תרפ"ה (10.10.1924) בעיר סאארבריקן, חבל הסאאר, גרמניה. למד בבית-ספר עממי ובשנת 1938 עלה לארץ עם "עליית-הנוער" בהיותו בן 14 שנים. מאיר למד בבן-שמן והמשיך ללמוד בבית-הספר החקלאי על שם כדורי.
בשנת 1942 התגייס לצבא הבריטי ושירת בפלוגת-שדה של חיל- המהנדסים וצורף לבריגדה היהודית (חי"ל). מאיר לחם נגד הגרמנים בחזית איטליה, עבר בארצות אירופה וטיפל בפליטי המחנות.
עם שחרורו מהצבא הצטרף למושב חיילים משוחררים "רגבה" ועבד בחקלאות עד יום התגייסותו. היה חבר רציני, מלא רגש ואהבת הזולת, ותוגה חרישית נסוכה עליו.
עם פרוץ מלחמת העצמאות התגייס ושירת כחבלן מומחה. ביום י"א בתשרי תש"ט (14.10.1948) נפל בשעת פירוק מוקשים בשדה-המוקשים ליד רמת יוחנן. מאיר הספיק לפרק 14 מהם ובפרקו את ה15- התפוצץ המוקש בידו והוא נהרג. נקבר בשבי-ציון.
ביום כ"א בסיוון תש"י (22.6.1950) הועבר למנוחת-עולמים בבית-הקברות הצבאי בהר- הרצל בירושלים.
