Turai Yaakov Benbenishti served in the Israel Defense Forces. Yaakov served with the Infantry. Yaakov served in the War of Independence.
בן ידידה ובן-ציון, נולד בשנת 1926 בירושלים. בן למשפחה אדוקה וכבר בהיותו בן ארבע שנים החל ללמוד ב"חדר". יעקב סיים את בית-הספר העירוני לבנים, למד את מלאכת הסנדלרות, עזב אותה לזמן מסוים ועבד באינסטלציה. אחר-כך חזר להשתלם במקצועו הראשון, נשא אישה ופתח חנות נעליים עם שותף. עם פרוץ מלחמת-העצמאות לאחר החלטת עצרת האו"ם על חלוקת הארץ, הצטרף לאצ"ל בירושלים. עבר אימונים והשתתף בכיבוש דיר-יאסין ואחר-כך יצא בקביעות לעמדות-הגנה בעיר. ביום ט' באייר תש"ח (18.5.1948) יצא לאחת העמדות במרכז המסחרי בירושלים, נפגע מכדור ונפל חלל. נקבר בסנהדריה. ביום י"ט בחשוון תשי"ב (8.11.1951) הועבר למנוחת-עולמים בבית-הקברות הצבאי בהר- הרצל בירושלים.
