Turai Yehuda Mizrahi served in the Israel Defense Forces. Yehuda served with the Infantry. Yehuda served in the War of Independence.

What Happened

בנם-בכורם של רחל ויעקב-מרדכי, נולד בשנת 1924 בירושלים. עד גיל 14 למד בבית-ספר יסודי, אך נאלץ להפסיק את לימודיו כדי לעזור למשפחתו. במשך שנתיים למד סיתות אבני בנייה. כשפרצה מלחמת-העולם השנייה התגייס יהודה לצבא הבריטי ושירת כנהג, אם כי היה מתחת לגיל הגיוס. כאשר הוקמה הבריגדה היהודית שירת בה כטוראי בחיל-הרגלים וביקר בכמה מארצות-אירופה: איטליה, צרפת, גרמניה ואנגליה. עם שחרורו עבד שנתיים לערך כנהג בירושלים, עד תחילת מלחמת-העצמאות. יהודה השתתף בליווי שיירות לקסטל והר-הצופים ולחם בקרב ואדי ג'וז. הוא יצא עם מחלקתו להציב מארב לתחבורה הערבית בכביש ירושלים-רמאללה. בדרך נסיגתה לעטרות הוקפה המחלקה על-ידי המון ערבי, כותרה ומרבית אנשיה נהרגו. בקרב זה נפל, ביום כ"ג באדר א' תש"ח (4.3.1948). נקבר בסנהדריה בירושלים. ביום ה' באלול תשי"א (6.9.1951) הועבר למנוחת-עולמים בבית-הקברות הצבאי בהר-הרצל בירושלים.
