What Happened

בן רינה (דינה) ויעקב, נולד בשנת 1927 בכפר פאזארצ'יק, בולגריה. סיים בית-ספר עממי ובשנת 1942 עלה ארצה במסגרת "עליית- הנוער". בארץ עבר הכשרה ועבד בקיבוץ עין שמר ואחרי שנתיים נתקבל לעבודה כאורג בבית-החרושת "אתא" כדי לעזור להוריו. הוא התמחה בעבודה, קיבל קביעות, נשא אישה ונולד לו בן. במלחמת-העצמאות התייצב להגנת המולדת ושירת באחד מגדודי חטיבת "כרמלי". השתתף בפעולות בסביבות חיפה ובהדיפת ההתקפה הגדולה על רמת יוחנן. לאחר בלימת הפלישה בעמק הירדן נטלו כוחותינו את היוזמה ותקפו באזור הגלבוע. לאחר שנתפסה אחיזה ברכס הגלבוע תקפה חטיבת "כרמלי", בליל 2-3 ביוני את ג'נין וכבשה את המשלטים החולשים על העיר. הצבא העיראקי, שעבר לשומרון לאחר כישלונו בעמק הירדן, ריכז כוחותיו ותקף נגד ובלחץ התקפה זו נאלצו כוחותינו לסגת. אחרי הקרב ביום כ"ה באייר תש"ח (3.6.1948) נחשב כנעדר ורק לאחר זמן נמצאה גופתו. ביום כ' באב תש"י (3.8.1950) הועבר למנוחת-עולמים בבית-הקברות הצבאי בהר-הרצל בירושלים.
