Turai Shimon Weitzman served in the Israel Defense Forces. Shimon served with the Artillery Corps.

What Happened

בן עזר ועישה. נולד בשנת תרצ"ח (1938) בעיר מרקש אשר במרוקו. בעודנו צעיר מאוד נתייתם מאביו ועול הפרנסה של המשפחה היה עליו. הוא עלה לארץ עם סבא וסבתא שלו בשנת 1955 ועבד זמן קצר בחקלאות. בנטותו לספורט השתייך לקבוצת כדורגל. באוגוסט 1956 גויס לצה"ל ובזמן מערכת סיני שירת בצבא. סיים קורס במקצוע של קידוחי נפט ועבד ב"לפידות" כסגן מנהל משמרת. בזמנו הפנוי למד במסגרת השכלת עם ובלימודיו הגיע להישגים יפים תוך זמן קצר. לאחר שחרורו מן הצבא היה יוצא מדי פעם למילואים ונמנה עם וותיקי הגדוד. היה חייל למופת ומילא את תפקידיו בנאמנות ובמסירות. לפני מלחמת ששת הימים נקרא שוב לדגל וביום הששי לקרבותיה נפצע בסיני וכעבור יומיים, ביום ד' בסיון תשכ"ז (12.6.1967) מת מפצעיו. הניח אשה וילד; האשה היתה בהריונה בנפול שמעון והילד השני נולד לאחר מכן. הובא למנוחת עולמים בבית הקברות הצבאי בבארי ולאחר זמן הועבר לבית הקברות באפקים אשר בנגב.
