Turai Itzhak Cohen served in the Israel Defense Forces. Itzhak served with the Infantry. Itzhak served in the War of Independence. Itzhak was 20 years old.

What Happened

בן רבקה ויעקב-לייבוש, נולד ביום כ"ז בתמוז תרפ"ז (27.7.1927) בטבריה. אמו מתה עליו בנעוריו. יצחק סיים שמונה כיתות ב"תלמוד תורה" בטבריה ועבר לנתניה לעבוד ביהלומים, אך נפשו דבקה בתורה. לשם-כך עבר לירושלים ולמד בישיבות "חברון", "בית אהרן" ו"נובוגרודוק" ונטה ל"קבלה". הוא לימד ב"ישיבה" תלמידים פליטים והיה פעיל ב"משמרת שבת". מיום המלחמה הראשון לאחר החלטת עצרת האו"ם על חלוקת הארץ לשתי מדינות היה בין מגיני שכונת ימין משה. יצחק סירב לקבל שחרור והתגייס לפלוגה דתית (פלוגה א'). בכל תקופת הקרבות דיקדק במצוות וידע לעודד חברים בשעת צרה. יצחק השתתף בקרבות ליד שער הגיא ובפרוזדור ירושלים, נפצע על הקסטל ובהגנת משק-הילדים במוצא עילית, ובעודו פצוע חזר ליחידה. הוא שירת כרגם. ביום י"ב בתמוז תש"ח (19.7.1948), לפני היכנס ההפוגה השנייה לתוקפה, נפגע מצרור כדורים ב"בתי מנדלבוים" בירושלים כשחש לעמדה קיצונית ומת. ביום כ"ח באלול תש"י (10.9.1950) הועבר למנוחת-עולמים בבית-הקברות הצבאי בהר- הרצל בירושלים.
